Dusseldorf Restaurants: Picture of al fresco dining during a warm summer eveningYou won't find it difficult to spot somewhere to eat in Dusseldorf, with dining opportunities ranging from gourmet restaurants drenched in history, to pavement cafes offering freshly baked pastries and mugs of coffee. Many of the cities best restaurants and bars lies within the Old Town quarter, where you will find more than 200 on offer, often being full of character.

For lunchtime snacks, plenty of deli-style cafes have cropped up all over central Dusseldorf, often featuring their own courtyards and serving freshly prepared sandwiches, soups, salads, quiches and an array of specials, usually written on a blackboard or similar. However, since many Germans treat lunchtime as the main meal of the day, if you are looking for something a little more filling, plenty of restaurants will be happy to oblige and you will never have far to look for a slap-up, three-course lunch and a nice glass of German Riesling wine or 'altbier', a type of German pale ale that first originated in Dusseldorf.
